Editorial Review for Stoney River Legendary Steaks – by Mindy Merrell

The Scene
You're still in the city, though it doesn't feel like it once you step inside Stoney River's cool, masculine dining room. The decor, complete with roaring fire, handsome horseshoe bar and overstuffed couches, feels more hunting-lodge than metropolis. The bright open kitchen bustles with activity; servers are prompt and professional.

The Food
Huge portions of steak and seafood rule the menu. Addictive doughnut-style fried rolls set the pace for a night of overindulgence. An appetizer of succulent lamb chops on a nest of fried onions is delicious, but the portion is entree-sized. The cool, crisp iceberg wedge with blue cheese could feed a family. Steaks are perfectly cooked, but garlic-rosemary seasoning overwhelms the flavor of the beef. Seafood comes super-sized, too, like enormous fillet of horseradish-encrusted grouper on a mass of caramelized onion mashed potatoes: the fish is crispy and the mashed potatoes are luscious.

We enjoyed our meal at Stoney River. My prime rib was excellent and so were the garlic mashed potatoes. My wife said that part of her ribeye was tough but over all it was good. The service was superb. We were not that impressed by the head of lettuce salad, the bleu chees dressing was not very good.

Pros: great service, excellent steak

Cons: a little too pricey, I've had just as good cheaper

Last night, my husband and I had an amazing dinner. We had the whiskey shrimp appetizer, which was divine; I had the pecan encrusted swordfish, my husband had the 16 ounce prime rib. Our meals, the service and everything about the evening was wonderful, as always. Our water glasses were never less than half-full, and they were immediately re-filled; my before dinner drink, the mojito, was excellent! We were too full for dessert, but their doughnut rolls serve as a "mini-dessert." We greatly enjoyed our night, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great night out! Call ahead for priority seating.

Pros: Everything is delicious!

Cons: Expensive, but you get what you pay for - worth the night out.
