What People Are Saying About 400 Degrees

In Short – Red flames painted on the windows set the tone and are echoed inside the small, wood-paneled room. Regulars who stop in after work or after church on Sundays occupy seats at the counter and two colorful tables. The restaurant's name is code for ordering meat at the spiciest level, but those with milder palates ask for 100 or 200 degrees. The most popular dishes are the pork chop sandwich and hot chicken wings.
Who is the Hot Chicken Champ?
by CutiePie1983 at Citysearch
ok, so nashville is the hot chicken capital of the world according to several internet sites. my boyfriend and i kept reading conflicting reviews about these various hot chicken joints in nashville. so we decided to try them ourselves.
being from new orleans (pre-katrina) we LOVE hot food. so we tried bolton's, prince's and 400 degrees (the top 3 chicken places in tn according to most people you ask). prince's was about a 60 on a scale from 1 to 100. bolton's was about a 65. 400 degrees is a 98!!! oh my gosh! this place has the best recipe for hot fried chicken i've ever tasted. and they're nice too.
keep up the good work. you are the hot chicken champ in tennessee!!!
- Pros: amazing chicken and great service
- Cons: i wish i could eat in the restaurant
400 Degrees IS the best and the lady that owns it is a sweetheart

400 degrees is great and the neighborhood adds to the ambiance. The chicken is amazing and the heat lasts for days. davis is a whimp. The lady that owns the place is a real sweetheart and treats everyone great. When I take my white butt down in the hood for this chicken, I feel it a privelage to be there and to eat and leave safe. I have never had a problem there or Princes for that matter...it's like a visitor to another country. The best "real" food is in the hood in any town you go to...and 400 degrees is the best. It's addicting and were are there at least once a week.
- Pros: the food
- Cons: not open enough
Unbelievable hot chicken!!!

Wow! Wow! Wow!
As a food critic, I'm supposed to try a different restaurant every week. I'm not supposed to keep going back to the same restaurant every weekend. Twelve visits later (in the span of 2 months), I still can't get enough of 400 Degrees. I pick up chicken almost every Friday and Saturday night here. Prince's Hot Chicken Shack, which used to be my favorite, wishes they could be HALF as good as 400 Degrees. Bolton's Spicy Chicken and Fish comes close but STILL can't dethrone Tennessee's newly crowned Queen of Chicken!!!!! And the ladies at 400 are nice to you (unlike at Prince's and Bolton's).
I've searched New Orleans, Memphis, Houston and Miami for the best hot chicken in the world. All of a sudden, I found it right under my nose in Nashville. Go today!!! Right now!!!
P.S. Poor Mr. Davis in his review. What a misguided soul. He can't handle a little grease in his chicken. He wouldn't know good food if it sat in his lap. And he obviously doesn't travel through the less affluent communities of Nashville very often. It's really not that bad, even on Friday nights. Please Mr. Davis. Spew your propoganda somewhere else.
- Pros: The best fried chicken I've ever put in my mouth
- Cons: Having to drive 20 minutes to pick up the chicken, but it's WORTH IT!!!!!
