Worst expensive meal in Nashville. There is not much to recommend this restaurant. Previous reviews are right on. The food is much too sweet from the impersonation of a sangria (pineapple-yuck) to the fruit syrup salad dressing. The main course that we paid much too much for was a good cut of perfectly cooked venison ruined with both the syrupy berry sauce and the vanilla pudding rice called a risotto paired with it. We spent far too much money for such a dissatisfying meal. I actually felt ill and needed to leave. I would have done better to have stay at home. It is my sincere hope that this place is not diagnostic of the quality of restaurant to be found here.
Avoid Bartenders.
A few friends came in from oversees to visit and wanted to hang out at a nice spot, we were told about Cabana. Went in and thought we were in for a goodnight, however the bartender was very rude and refuse to serve us stated that "he do not serve unless he is tip, everytime he serves a drink."
I was ashamed having brought company from another country to see this display of behavior. They informed the bartender that they were from another country and that it was common to tip the bartendar at the end of the night for his services while there.
At the end of the night the bartendar was tip.
The next week we returned and was serve by another bartendar who was later informed not to serve us because we do not F#&$ tip, this was stated in our presence. After our drinks were completed we waited patiently to be served again, but all the bartendars ignored our presence. The informant came up after 40mins of no service and stated loudly, "are we goin to tip this week, no tip no service!" We got up and left vowing never to return to this establishment.
Just like a Faizon restaurant. Actually, Jody Faizon did better with this property than Craig Clifft has. It is far too loud to hear any of my thoughts, the "back bar" is cool, if you can get in. I can't remember the last time I had to pay cover for a place without a stage! I have eaten here several times in the past, and was mildly impressed at first. However the duck is the worst addition to a menu I have ever tasted. Something like rubber with bacon. The host staff was exceptional, and the wait staff was pretty good, too. However, the inaccessability of the main attraction takes away from this place. Avoid this place. If you want trendy, new american cuisine, go to Flyte, Radius 10, Watermark, etc.
BYO Cake. This place only charges $1.50/person to celebrate your best friend's engagement with a slice of cookie cake. All you have to do is supply your own cookie cake. What a deal! Bad restaurant.
Wine List and Bar Seen. My wife and I went to Cabana tonight and had a blast, the WINELIST is the stuff. Service was great, and the energy is right where you would want it. Gone there a couple of times before, and will be back soon.
great food, but dine before midnight. I've been to cabana several times for drinks and dinner, both are very good, meal was more then I expected from a bar, venison entree was as good if not better then what I've had at other resteraunts and half the price. Pizza was very good only complaint was after 12 it took awhile to get food,
ABYSMAL FOOD.
Nashville has some great restaurants-Park Cafe, Zola, Boundry, Virago, Sunset Grill, etc. Unfortunately, Cabana is NOT one of them. I can't imagine what type of cuisine those who have rated Cabana highly are accustomed to. I will say the minimalist decor is trendy and fresh, but let me tell you about the food. Imagine Del Monte cream style corn...slurried with sugar. That's what the mixture that graces Cabana's fried green tomatoes appetizer tastes like. Abysmal.
Still, I was looking forward to the entree, blackened tilapia. The fish was fresh, but again, it sat atop a strange brew: pumpkin bisque that did not complement the dish at all. Imagine a BLT: bologna, lard, and tuna. It's almost as if no one there as actually tasted any of these dishes. I also tried my friend's bbq sandwich....again, sugary and terrible.
I realize the founders of Cabana are highly regarded and I absolutely love their other establishments. I'm hopeful that they will make RADICAL changes to Cabana's menu and get this place up to par.
Not everything people say about it.
I went to Cabana to meet some friends for cocktails. I was there about five minutes before leaving. Talk about a bad atmosphere. You have to reserve a "cabana" to have anywhere to sit down because the bar is full of old men watching sports. Secondly, you have to eat dinner there in order to reserve a cabana ... its just rude to your server not to do so and its pricey.
And what's with all the suits and ties?
Not recommended for anything other than a semi-formal dinner party.
Nice Variety, Great Food, Excellent Service, Reasonable Prices. We tried a variety of eclectic appetizers and entrees and found them all delightful. Drinks were good pours and the service was excellent. Unbelievably, prices were more than reasonable. All in all, a great dining experience. We will be back again and again.
very well decorated.. Their food was horrible and overpriced! The wait staff was not energetic at all, nor did they seem suprised we didn't like the food. A group of 4 of us ate dinner there and each of us had different entrees and no one out of our group liked the food.
