Not available....hunh? Are u Kidding me?

by bryanfences at Citysearch

My name is Ellis Bryan and for the record my family consist of a 2yr old, a 6yr old and a loving wife. They get me on weekends if im not working. ive been going by appointments only for about 8years now.

. So if im, "not available" its usually because I have a prior engagement. However, Im NEVER available to install a gate operator for a customer who insist on doing it the wrong way. To further clarify some details I included a simple list for those wanting to tackle installing pumps, motors and actuators at their own home in the future.

Rules for installing gate operators on Wood Gates:

1. Dont even attempt it unless youre extremely handy....kinda like Bob Villa sort of handy. Then read instructions carefully.

2. Dont let the wind hyperextend your gate too many times and expect gates to line up perfectly. It stresses the hinges and causes major long term problems.

3.Dont try and mount the gate operator to the gate post itself ie: operators need independent support post.

4. All wood gates need aluminum or steel frame when mounting gate operators.

4. Make sure your weight ratio is consistent with your operators.

5. On top of all this....you need to have a professional install your gate operator if you have no clue what you are doing. Because its the companies responsibility to maintain that operator and system. My company doesnt install gate operators nor have we ever.

If you have an eager father-in-law install your gate operator and youve managed to save a little money that route, sometimes the money you save may have to be used to correct the NOW malfunctioning gate.

Pretty but broken

by benstewart at Citysearch

Ellis Bryan sold me a fence based on his promise of good post-work customer service. He told me about how he goes around to his customers and makes sure everything lasts. He even told me how I could purchase an automatic gate opener and install it myself and offered to help me do it... although he wasn't available when I did the work.

Before I even installed the gate opener one of my gate posts started sagging and the two doors started overlapping in the middle. He sent his crew over early one morning (unannounced) and they chopped off part of the offending door so that they wouldn't touch anymore. Not an ideal solution, but it seemed to work... for about two weeks. Then the same door started overlapping again. This time it was obvious that the problem was a sagging gate post.

When I called Ellis about it he said he was sending himself an email right then so he would remember to come by and check it out. A few weeks later after no response I sent him an email to which he replied "I'm not touching that gate... It's been tampered with by someone who had no clue what they were doing."

It's a shame to have such a beautiful gate with such a fatal flaw and seemingly no customer support! Look elsewhere.

Quickly Replaced Porch Railing

by unclePen at Citysearch

Ellis Bryan brought his team to our duplex to replace the iron railing on our front porch with wood railing. Mr. Bryan explained that this particular job was slightly different than the type of fence work that he usually does (I think it had to do with the existing veranda and concrete landing), but he and his team handled the task masterfully. As form follows function, I can verify that the railing is solid and sturdy, and it looks great too!

Mr. Bryan set his crew to work and left to oversee other jobs and/or fetch supplies, and the crew continued to work on their own (unsupervised) in a focused, professional way right up until they completed the job. The men were polite, friendly and quite skillful. As a former construction worker myself, I can verify that this kind of trustworthy labor is hard to find and highly valuable to both contractor and customer.

Mr. Bryan himself is personable and professional. He is transparent in his business methods, knowledgeable in his field, expertly in his judgment and just a straightforward and friendly individual. Call him up when you need a reliable structure built on your property!

  • Pros: Presentable, skilled team; fast; expert analysis; friendly

Great Fence from a Helpful Nice Guy

by MarTes at Citysearch

Ellis Bryan was a pleasure to work with. We hired him to put a fence around a new garden at our preschool. The work was done quickly and neatly. Preschool budgets aren't huge and Ellis was very generous with his time and talents. I highly recommend Bryan Fences.
