In Short – The sleek, modern interior of this brick bistro draws an eclectic crowd, just like the neighborhood. Dramatic floor-to-ceiling white window trim against midnight walls frame the downtown skyline. The short menu covers France, Thailand and New Zealand. Popular starters are hot squash fritters with buttermilk cream. Savory entrees include sweet-plum pork with mashed potatoes and mustard-herb-crusted rack of lamb.
Editor's Tips
- Where to Sit:
- Window tables offer the best view, but birch banquettes face the view as well.
- Save Time:
- Call-ahead seating (30 minutes beforehand) is available for lunch and brunch.
Best Cheese Cake in Nashville

We to Germantown for my birthday and had a wonderful experience. The food was great and the service was too. We had serval different things from the menu and we shared. The plum pork was great. French onion soup was the best I have had in Nashville and the Cheese Cake, well it was better than any cheese cake I've ever eaten. If you have never eaten here I suggest you come and try it out. You will not be disappointed. We also went over and tried the new Germantown East and it was equally as good. We will go back again.

Not our best experience, but I have been there before and had a nice time and meal. So maybe it was just an off night. Will be back.
- Pros: Salmon dish
- Cons: rushed service
Why would you eat here?

I don't understand how this restaurant exists. People that dine in Nashville must have zero expectations when they go out to eat. I know people that have worked in the kitchen and it's terrible. The lamb shank is microwaved for 4 minutes when you order it and then if they have time they'll put it in the oven. If not they'll just put it back in for 4 more minutes.
The menu has been the same since forever. Why would you go here when Cityhouse is right around the corner??? There aren't many good restaurants in Nashville but this is one of the worst. Cityhouse, Flyte, Miel, and 360 Bistro are all better choices.
- Pros: it looks nice from the outside
- Cons: microwaved lamb shank and a menu that never changes

Germantown Cafe's kitchen specializes in straightforward traditional cooking with a subtle twist--but don't worry, there's no fusion confusion on display here. Whether you choose the delicious pork tenderloin with plum sauce, the coconut curry salmon, or the crabbiest crab cakes this side of Chesapeake Bay, you'll revel in the culinary confidence of their chef.
