Editorial Review for Beyond the Edge Bar and Restaurant – by Jonathan Flax

In Short
Though walls are decorated with skis, snowboards and rock-climbing paraphernalia, this really isn't a sports bar. Instead, this East Nashville watering hole is a well-appointed and somewhat family-friendly restaurant with an extreme-sports theme. The menu features mostly healthy fare, including turkey and veggie wraps and an array of creative salads. The bar showcases live acoustic music. There's also a pool table, a few '80s-era arcade games and a high-tech touch-screen jukebox.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

It's located next to Alley Cat and on the opposite side of the lot from the now-defunct Slow Bar in East Nashville.

Save Money

Happy hour is 4pm-7pm weekdays.

Parking

Space is at a premium in the main lot, but patrons can park in the adjacent (and usually empty) spots at Bongo Java after business hours.

When to Go

Since the late-night crowd here is pretty thin, the club makes for a laid-back last stop for the evening.

Beyond The Edge is basically an ashtray. Was their food good? Was their beer good? I can't tell you because the place was so smokey it was not enjoyable. My wife and I went to watch a hockey game and enjoyed the nice beer selection, and some of food was good, but by the end of the game my eyes were burning. We had to go home and undress straight into the washing machine and take showers. I can' t believe any restaurant owner would subject their employee's to that. Probably worse than asbestos.... :-(

Pros: Nice beer selection.

Cons: Smokey beyond any healthful standard.
