Ask for Karina!. I love getting my hair done by Karina. After just a few months of having her as my stylist, she understood my style and my look. I came in with a picture for a pretty dramatic cut but wasn't sure about what to do with my color. I just knew I wanted different and told her I loved her color. She knew exactly what to do and gave me a cut and color that I adore and have gotten tons of compliments on. I'm loving rocking short hair, all thanks to Karina's great instincts and talent. Love her!
BEST SALON AROUND!!.
I moved to Nashville a year ago... and tried multiple salons. I'm done searching, Rodney Mitchell is the best by far!
My highlights and lowlights were so close to the scalp... I got an extra 2 weeks growth before needing a root touch up!! Awesome.
My stylist was Adam Lanning. He was thorough and clean with the foils, and gave me a sexy long-layered hair cut. And the blowout was crazy good (on par with a blowout I once got in NY)!!! It lasted 4 days.
The other cool thing about this salon? The stylists are all friends, and help each other out. It felt good receiving multiple compliments on my hair from those who work there.
You won't get what you Paid for!!.
This is the worst experience and customer service I have ever received at a salon. Passing by several times I thought it looked like a very nice place where you would have a great experience, I was very wrong.
They scheduled my appointment with Adam. When I got there for my 5:00 appointment he came over (not introducing himself) and said he was running a little behind and I would have to wait. I was really nice and waited patiently for over an hour!
When I told him the I wanted red in my hair he said that color would not go well with my skin tone, so HE decided highlights would be best for me. When I was finished my hair looked orange! He then charged me to put toner and calm down the brassy color (Not to mention my hair was v. light brown to start with).
When it came to cutting my hair- I said I wanted bangs. He then told me that bangs were not sexy and he cut my hair how he pleased. Besides telling me this he did not speak to me for the 3 hours it took him to do my hair.
I also heard him complaining about people using groupons during this too to other employees. He also was texting the entire time and not focusing on my hair!!!
When I finally checked out my total was MUCH more than they had told me, I'm not sure what all of my extra charges were for. But something I expected to pay $100 was over $200 and I left with my hair barely shorter and you could hardly see any highlights!
Not to mention my highlights were like a half inch from my roots.
The worst part is I am a really easy going person and it doesn't take alot to make me happy, but this is just unacceptable from a salon that has such a good reputation! I wanted to cry after I left.
I'm VERY surprised by the overwhelming "good" reviews this place gets. I recently moved here from Austin, and bought one of the groupons - I got a cut and partial highlight.
First, I walked in to the owner and his right hand man yelling at a homeless person . And I do mean YELLING in an over the top kind of way, threatening to call the police and the whole nine yards. The homeless guy just came in to inquire about the signage they had out front about "free male hair cuts'. They totally degraded him in front of everyone. Tasteless.
The stylists was nice enough, but she did a lousy job on my highlights. I now have hair that is dull and almost looks grey (and I'm 28). And the cut is totally wrong for my face shape... I'm just waiting for it to grow out.
While I was waiting for my "color" to take, the guy at the front was booking an appointment for someone over the phone who had a groupon. He and the owner where making faces at each other and making comments referring to what a pain in the ass groupon customers were. Meanwhile, I'm a groupon customer. thanks.
Oh, and then while I was waiting to checking out... a woman, who must be a regular customer, cut right in front of me, everyone standing at the desk knew... and said nothing about it.
This place is AWFUL! No wonder they have to offer groupons to get business!
Love my Brazilian Blowout.
I've been wanting a Brazilian Blowout for years, but just couldn't bring myself to spend the money. Lucky for me, Rodney Mitchell Salon offered it on Groupon for a $100 and I snagged it immediately. I waited a while to book my appointment, though-- started getting anxious about going to a new salon (we girls get so hooked on our fave hairstylists, you know.) I must report, however, that I was EXTREMELY impressed with this salon and my entire "Brazilian" experience.
The place was hip and everyone was so upbeat and friendly. My stylist was ready for me immediately, offered me a cocktail and I relaxed as she walked me through the blowout process. I never felt rushed, but was finished without wasting anytime. Best of all, the salon offered a future blowout for $150 by pre-booking my next visit.
It's been almost 2 months and I still get compliments on my hair - even from strangers. Plus my hair looks great on rainy days, too! I have already recommended Rodney Mitchell Salon and the Brazilian blowout to all my friends and I can't wait for my 2nd visit!
Thanksgiving Special!!!. This Saturday, November 27th, Rodney Mitchell Salon will be offering the Brazilian Blowout for only $100!!!! Please call today to schedule your appointment. 460-7002. Happy Holidays, RMS
What a Treat! Great Haircut, Great Experience.
I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to my hair. Every few months I will get my hair cut and until now it has always been at a different salon. (couldn't find one that fits)
I had my first return visit to a salon since I moved to Nashville three years ago. All the staff seemed kind and they made me feel very comfortable. Dale @ the Hillsboro salon did a great job for a second time. He is sweet, he listens carefully to what you want, and works hard to give you a great haircut. I will be a returning customer for as long as I live in Nashville.
I would highly recommend Rodney Mitchell and Dale!
IMPORTANT UPDATE. We have now merged the two salons into the Rodney Mitchell Salon in Hillsboro Village. Our Franklin location is now closed. Please call our Hillsboro location @ #615-460-7002 to set up your appointment. All Franklin clients will received 20% off their first visit!!
Worth the Drive. I usually do not take the time to write reviews on places I've been but after reading the negative one I feel I must tell of my own experience. I had heard about the salon from a friend who loves it so I decided to give it a try. I drove over an hour! So after my long commute and my hard time finding a park I was looking for any reason not to drive this far again. Unfortunately I could not find anything! The staff was all very friendly and personable, the decor was very eclectic and fun, and best of all were the stylists. I have never had my hair look so good! I am now looking forward to my next mini road trip!
Maybe I just got the wrong hair stylist but I absolutely hated my experience here. First of all, the guy at the front desk was pretty rude to me. However, I definitely can forgive this as it is often the case for hair salons. Also the salon seemed really dead. None of the stylists seemed especially friendly or excited. I would have been fine with this if my hair turned out great, but this was not the case. My major problem with this salon is that my haircut was simply awful.
I did give the stylist direction regarding what I wanted. It is safe to say she did not cut my hair at all like I asked. As she cut my hair she honestly seemed afraid to do it. That did not make me feel very confident in her ability...but once she started cutting I could not turn back. I have long, fairly wavy hair. I asked her to trim my layers. She decided to add more (which I don't have a problem with, in theory) - however, the way that she cut the layers was beyond horrible. It took me months to grow out my hair so I could get it cut again in order to make it look normal. She started to dry my hair and I nicely told her it takes a while for my hair to dry (everyone who has cut my hair has commented on this). She then asked me how I usually style my hair. I told her that I blow it out with a round brush and then go over it a little with a flat iron IF necessary. Instead of thoroughly drying my hair to blow it out she went at it with a flat iron while it was still wet. NOT GOOD. She flat ironed my hair for so long that I thought it was just going to burn off. She made it incredibly straight (which I told her I didn't like before she did this...I like my hair to have body) and it looked so limp and awful. I have always gotten compliments on my hair and this cut and style was in no way compliment-inducing. It was so bad.
I have never had anybody cut and style my hair the way this stylist did. It was the worst cut I have ever had and it cost met the most I've ever paid (almost $70 when all was said and done (yes this is tip included...I just couldn't be rude to her face)). Don't get me wrong, I have no problem spending money on a haircut...if it is worth it. I would advise readers to find another (better) Nashville salon to spend their money.
