Editorial Review for Stanley's – by J.P. Anderson
The Scene
Talk about split personalities: Stanley's front room is a darkened bar full of Guinness-drinking locals, while in back, the dining area is a bright, family-friendly space, with '50s-style Formica tables and chairs, mismatched wallpaper and a jumble of scattered photos and tchotchkes.
The Food
Roll up your sleeves and loosen your belt--your arteries are in for it. Starting with the free basket of hush puppies and corn muffins, move on to comfort food at its finest (and fattest): mini-cheeseburgers, meat loaf, chicken-fried chicken and whipped potatoes and gravy. Crusty and cheese-caked on the outside, macaroni and cheese oozes inside--great as a side or a full meal. The best thing on the menu may be the apple pie, doled out in huge slices with layer upon layer of thinly sliced apples, sweet crust and delicate cinnamon ice cream.

If you like casual, neighborhood bar scenes this place is perfect. It's really unpretensious and ridiculously fun. The bartenders are absolute characters and the servers are always entertaining. It's hard to find a bar that you can hang out at multiple times a week and actually get to know and enjoy the people who work there. On occasion I've stopped in by myself and had a great time just sitting at the bar, hanging out and talking to people. Sunday brunch is the best and If you haven't been there on a sunday night for live karaoke you're missing out, sometimes it's crowded but so much fun.

I really enjoyed my experience at Stanley's, I came in hungry and left full. The portions were great and the prices were right. I came in on a business trip to Chicago, and a group of my business partners decided to try it out for lunch. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken, the Famous Mashed Potatoes, and the very cheesy Macaroni and Cheese. This meal was great, prior to my lunch entree, I requested the house salad with ranch dressing, the salad was prepared with some of the freshest vegetables available, and this was evident as I devoured my pre meal salad. My only complaint about Stanley's during lunch was that we waited a long time before our order was taken (nearly 30 minutes before even being asked our lunch orders). This was something that I read about from another person who wrote a review on the place, and I experienced the same thing during our lunch. When our orders were taken, the food did not take very long to come out and the quality of the food more than makes up for the wait that we had to endure for receiving service. My advice for Stanley's in order to aid in providing speedier service would be to use the Hostess, (Who was at the time we were there a Miami of Ohio student), as a server because not many people were coming in and she was sitting the entire time that we were there waiting. The Hostess is being paid nearly the same amount as the waitress and the busser, and I feel that her time could be better spent as a server/ hostess. I was very impressed with the busser, he was a young Hispanic male who was working his tail off, he brought out our water, and food, we had more interaction with him that our waitress. Stanley's is a great atmosphere, great sports bar facility and there is a very adaptable restaurant configuration in that you can have either a casual dining experience or a sports bar experience all under one roof. CitySearch helped me make a great find... Thanks Guys. Stanley's an over all A+ experience!!!
Pros: Great Food, Large Portions, Great Prices
Cons: Slow to be Served, Understaffed, Kinda Dirty bar area
