Editorial Review for Kung Fu Coffee – by Jonathan Flax
In Short
This partially black-lit, somewhat makeshift hangout downtown has a decidedly punk aesthetic, with precariously low ceilings, cafeteria-style tables, paper lanterns, and indie-rock bumper stickers on the walls. The smallest stage in Music City, wedged near the front doors, is home to sporadic open mic-type activities, typically ranging from poetry to acoustic folk. Designed to provide over-21 Muse patrons a place to drink, it offers cheap import and domestic beers. Other items include assorted appetizer-type fare and energy drinks.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasOther fringe benefits include access to two computer workstations for email and Web browsing and back-door access to the Muse on show nights.
Know Before You GoIt's not the safest block in downtown--be mindful during your late-night walk to the car and use the buddy system when available.

I've seen a lot of really good old school classic rock, break-beat funk, live band/DJ drum&bass, electronica & raggae shows there. The straight-edge scene isn't what I am referring to, but you gotta give everyone a chance to play. Multi-genre for sure, simply call them up and ask for when the next certain type of music you like will be playing, they'll know. Very, very indie.
Pros: Beer, Chicks, Music
Cons: straight-edge kids, straight-edge shows, bring toilet paper
