In Short – The Japanese proprietor is often the sole employee at this tiny nook on the corner of Church Street and Printer's Alley, where he holds court behind the sushi bar. But even with space for just 20 patrons, office workers file in to scribble orders for tuna rolls, salmon nigiri and other basics on plain notepads. A mish-mash of faux fish netting, Titans scarves and stacks of Kirin beer boxes lend an East meets West kitsch.

great sushi, cheap

by murphreec at Citysearch

My girlfriend and I went to Sam's for the 1st time not to long ago. We were polite and courteous and when he asked us if we had been there we both said no. He still served us; it probably was because we had a good attitude and we made ourselves interesting company by talking about school. We had a huge plate full of great sushi and two drinks for only $13.50. I can't even get two rolls for that elsewhere and for a broke college student like myself I can't beat it. My advice if you're new: be kind and let Sam run the show. Don't act like a sushi know it all but pick from the list and be understanding. Sam will take care of you, like he did with us.

  • Pros: great sushi, cheap
  • Cons: possibility of getting kicked out

Awesome!

Sam is a great guy as long as you treat him with respect and offer him some interesting conversation. He does serve new costumers, if you come with a regular. His sushi is cheap and delicious. By far my favorite place to go for sushi in Nashville, not just for the food but for the interesting conversation
