A great place for dogs to play.

by lucy1951

I've been taking my dogs here almost every day for about six years. Most of the others I know who use Pup Scouts are, like me, loyal and long time customers. It is very clean, spacious and the owner (jane) is one of the most knowledgeable people in Nashville. (As she will admit, she gets along better with dogs than with most people.) It's not hard to tell how dogs feel about going somewhere. There are some kennels where my dogs clearly never want to enter again, but they are always happy to go to Pup Scouts. They enjoy playing with the other dogs and especially lying on the large couches. (The only criticism I have is that there has been a lot of turnover in staff over the years.)

I heard recently about one of the incidents described here. All the dogs are kept in individual crates during nap time, after hours, or if the dog needs a "time out." Two crates are in a bathroom near the play area where a dog can be kept away from the others.Sometimes a dog needs to be isolated either to calm down or as punishment. Apparently the owner of this dog did not understand that.

As a visit to a dog park will illustrate, not all dogs belong in a group environment. That's why dogs are "interviewed" before being admitted to Pup Scouts and why some dogs get asked not to come back. Sometimes the same is true of the owners.

  • Pros: convenient; friendly staff, they will give your dog a bath.
  • Cons: staff turnover , hard to get on the phone during work hours

Worst doggie daycare in Nashville

by dingledodie

Pup Scouts is awful. The owner, Jane, told a dog that it should be put to sleep. Anyone who cares about their dog even a little bit should steer clear of this place. As if telling a dog it should die isn't enough: 1) There are way too many dogs crammed into way too little space-leads to frequent fights (Don't be fooled by the spacious interior; your dog will never see it. That area is saved for the flyballl and agility teams), 2) The "one on one" training you pay for never happens, 3) The owner is abusive to dogs, 4) Most employees are "second chance" felons and 5) Owner recently charged with criminal activity.

It is a horrible place and I would only take my dogs there if I felt they needed severely punished.

HERE IS MY STORY:

I have been taking my dog here for 7 months now. The normal days procedure: walk in to drop dog off, they come and take your dog to the back; at the end of the day you walk in to get your dog and if the time is after 6pm then they put him in a kennel in the back ( which is fine). On this particular day I walked to the back to get my dog b/c it was 6:05pm. To my surprise I couldn't find my dog. I looked in all of the 65 kennels in the back and still no dog of mine. I got an employee of the place and she couldn't find him until she got all red-faced (embarrssed) and checked a freaking broom closet where a kennel sat in the dark. They had locked my dog into that freaking broom closet in a kennel as-if my dog knows how to open doors. Then I was so furious that I just wanted my dog and his leash. The owner and I go to get his leash and they had lost it. I have not been back since this incident and I am probably not going back.

That incident reminds me that on another day after my dog had an ear infection for a week they said that they would administer his ear medicine during the day for me so I put his food and medicine in a bag trusting them to give it to him. When I came to pick him up they didn't feed him and after the closet incident(above) and these other reviews on this page I dont think that they even gave him his medicine at that time either.

  • Pros: n/A
  • Cons: Awful place for dogs!
