This colorful little cinder block building by the fairgrounds is like weird modern art in progress. Get past the quirky art and knickknacks to find a solid meat-and-three menu that changes daily. There's fried chicken on Tuesdays and catfish on Fridays. At least one of the holy trinity of white "vegetables"--mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and white beans--are on the menu every day. Although the cornbread ain't sweet, the tea sure is.

At least they got the name right. It?s a ?meat and three place? and they?re all the same. You get a hunk of mystery meat and a spoonful each of three different greasy vegetables that all taste the same. They toss two pieces of rock hard cornbread on top of it and you?re supposed to wolf the whole thing down in the 20 minutes you?ve got before you have to be back at work. I?d rather eat a Snickers?more nutrition and fewer calories

I was visiting Nashville and felt welcomed right away when I entered this restaurant. I'd read a favorable description of it in FROMMER'S GUIDE TO NASHVILLE and made it one of my destinations. White Trash Cafe is decorated with memorabilia, but it is not gaudy. In fact, the lights are low, so that, even with sunlight coming in through the front window, you have a feeling of privacy. The name, of course, is humorous, but the affection behind the whole enterprise is genuine. I had smothered chicken with two sidedishes, coffee and a very tasty banana pudding. It was comfort food with a difference: a dash of wit. My pudding had Nilla Wafers and bits of cereal in it. The pudding was heated so that the natural flavor of the banana was enhanced. I enjoyed it.

The food was pretty good, although my meatloaf was dry around the edges. The whole place looked like it could use a good cleaning and their health inspection score was only 84. There wan't anything fun or wacky going on like some other reviews have described. Also, they no longer serve breakfast.
