In Short
Southwestern decor meets art deco in this trendy Mexican restaurant near the upscale Lockland Springs in east Nashville. Bursting with rose, tangerine and purple colors, the interior sports a high, unfinished ceiling, cozy booths and a curvy bar lined with casual drinkers. The menu features contemporary cuisine with mesquite grilling and lime veggies. The burritos are thick, huge and smothered in a salsa verde or a spicier chili and served with ample sides of cool, garlicky guacamole and sour cream.

I ate at Rose Pepper once 8 years ago and wasn't crazy about it then. but I decided to try it again since I've heard from several people it's really good, and some of the reviews I've read even go so far as to say it's the best Mexican food in town. If it's the best I'd hate to taste the worst because I've had better food at Taco Bell. I have Mexican every Monday, and I've eaten at Mexican restaurants all over town. this is not the best food, I didn't really like any of the 3 salsas they served. and their margaritas certainly aren't the best. they have a strange bitterness to them I can't quite explain and $25.00 a pitcher is way too high for a below average margarita. the place had a neat vibe to it, except a lot of the chair cushions were all ripped up and taped together. and the iron boot thing hanging above my friend's head was so filthy I wasn't sure if they were left over spider web decorations from Halloween. turns out it was just a thick layer of dust. so no, I really wasn't impressed and I won't be back.

Living in this neighborhood all my married life gives me ample opportunity to try all the trendy places. My family and I love the Rosepepper. The atmosphere is great and the margaritas are the best I've had. I particularly enjoy the servers and the host/hostesses. I don't know what "chompchompchomp" is complaining about. They all have been nothing but professional and lovely to me and my family. I particularly like that the young man hosting remembers my name each time we come in. I think some of these reviews come from personal hang ups and not necessarily a true interpretation of the restaurant. Hope to see you there.

So yeah... this is the typical "too cool for school" hang out for East Nashville, any who... This place is over rated and over priced. The pros only would be the Margaritas and the salsa (if you can get refills.) The cons would be the horribly bland and tasteless food and the lackluster wait staff who seems to have an attitude at all times?? I ordered the chicken chimi and it was just a deep fried flour tortilla with bland pulled roasted chicken inside - where's the onions, peppers, hot spice, cheese, the mexican flava??!!! So I figured it was just that dish so the next time we went I ordered the fish tacos... again I could have went to Captain D's grabbed a tort wrap and a pack of hot sauce at taco bell and had more flavor than this place. The portion was incredibly small and tasteless. That was the last time I have been there. My boyfriend (who is from New Mexico and grew up in Cali) agrees this place is lacking on flavor. If you want that cool Emo kid vibe to smoke your reds then this is your place. If you are looking for decent Mex (not true of course we are in Tenn.) visit Las Maracas a little bit further down Gallatin Rd. At least you can have a little bit of flavor and not leave hungry. Or go to San Luis (dont know the name but thats what shows up on my bank statements) on Harding right off I24E to the right. Look for the big smoking bbq's and the smell of spicy meat to your left. You have to stand in line (no seating) and you can only order Carnitas of different flavors but they are amazing! Served on little corn (the real deal tortillas!) and they come with homemade habanero green sauce. I never see "gringos" there and the staff dont speak english. But its real and its good!!!
