The husband and wife chef/owner team of Michael DeGregory and Colleen Belloise-DeGregory moved to Nashville about 5 years ago from Miami Beach to open a restaurant. It was a long process which finally paid off on July 5th, 2000 in the form of Mirror on 12th Ave., S. "We wanted to bring the style and flavors of the larger cosmopolitain cities to the newly expanding city of Nashville, which we believed was crying out for more chic venues."

The revitalized 12 South district became the home site of Mirror. They offer popular Spanish tapas, small tastings that usually accompany sherry and other aperitifs or cocktails. They range from such simple items as cubes of ham and cheese to more elaborate preparations like snails in a spicy sauce, stuffed peppers or miniature sandwiches.

Editorial Review for Mirror Restaurant – by Craig Shelburne

In Short
Lively decor, including blue walls, a massive reflective mosaic and patio-like metal furniture create a motley environment for diners to enjoy a melange of flavors. Menu items are few, but feature dishes from a different country each month. The tapas menu includes favorites like blue cheese polenta fries and crispy bruschetta. For dessert, the decadent chocolate mousse provides a sweet, sticky finish.

1 Star Rating: Not Recommended

Granted, it was really snowy the night we went, so maybe the food/service/atmosphere was off because of that, but Mirror definitely did not live up to the reviews. The food was just so-so, nothing came out piping hot or tasted very fresh; we ordered the antipasti platter, and the prosciutto was spoiled! The crab cakes tasted frozen, the empanadas were terrible, and to top it all off, our server must have been bored so she kept butting into our conversation to make idiotic small talk. This place is not romantic in the least, the bar did not seem to be happening, and there was definitely not any people watching going on. We won't be back.

Pros: Kind of cool looking, 12 South across the street is an awesome place!

Cons: A lot...food, service, ambience

5 of us were meeting in Nashville from various places (Knoxville, Louisville, Bowling Green, Nashville). Being the Nashvillian, I chose the restaurant. I picked Mirror, and I am SO glad I did. It had a cool looking interior, a pretty large, diverse menu, and the service was excellent. We had made a reservation, and the table was ready when we arrived (somewhere between 5 min early & on time), and they even had the waters waiting. I could tell our waters hadn't been there long because the ice was still fresh. That was nice. Our waiter was super helpful & friendly, without overdoing it. The our drinks came pretty fast, as did the food. The food was great. Two people ordered Large Plates, two people had two Small Plates, and one person just had one Small Plate. It was an enjoyable experience, and I definitely recommend it to anyone!

Pros: diverse selection of tapas
